Cartridge filters
Cartridge filters are the last filtration stage before the reverse osmosis membranes, catching fine particles that pass the media filters. 5-micron cartridges are common before the membranes, and cartridges come in different lengths, ratings and types. ALPHA for Environmental Technologies supplies replacement cartridges that fit your plant’s housing.

Types of cartridges
-
Melt-blown
Polypropylene, the most common choice before reverse osmosis membranes.
-
String-wound
Hold more dirt in water with higher turbidity.

Pleated
More filter area and a lower pressure drop at high flows.
Frequently asked questions about cartridge filters
Which micron rating suits RO membranes?
5 microns is the most common; finer ratings may be used depending on the plant design and the membrane maker's advice.
When should cartridges be changed?
When the pressure drop across the housing reaches the limit in the operating manual, or on the maintenance schedule; washing and reusing them before membranes is not advised.
Why do my cartridges clog quickly?
Usually weak pre-treatment, high turbidity or iron, so the media filters and their backwash should be checked.
What do I need to order cartridges?
The cartridge length, diameter, micron rating and quantity, or a photo of the current cartridge.
