Types of control heads

  • Manual

Backwashing is run by turning the handle, which suits small plants checked every day.

  • Automatic, time-clock

Starts the backwash on a fixed schedule set by the operator, usually at night so it does not clash with use.

  • Automatic, metered

Measures the treated water and starts backwash or regeneration when needed, saving water and salt in softeners.

Frequently asked questions about control heads

What is the difference between time-clock and metered control?

A time clock backwashes on a fixed schedule whatever the use; a meter starts it after a set volume of water, which suits varying demand and reduces waste.

What are the signs of a faulty control head?

Water running to drain during service, backwash not starting on time, or the head stopping at one stage.

Does any control head fit any vessel?

No. It must match the vessel opening, the required flow and the use (filter or softener).

What do I need to order a control head?

The use, the vessel opening and diameter, and the flow, or a photo of the current control head.
