Chemicals
Desalination and treatment plants need specific chemicals to protect the membranes and equipment and keep the water quality: antiscalant, SMBS for dechlorination, chlorine for disinfection, and acid and alkaline membrane cleaners. ALPHA for Environmental Technologies supplies the chemicals your plant needs, and their dosing units.

Plant chemicals and what they do
-
Antiscalant
Dosed before the membranes to reduce salt scaling on their surface.
-
SMBS
Removes free chlorine before the membranes, because it damages most reverse osmosis membranes.
-
Chlorine
Disinfects the raw or product water and the storage tanks.
-
Membrane cleaning chemicals
Acid solutions remove scale; alkaline solutions remove organic and biological fouling.
Frequently asked questions about desalination plant chemicals
When do membranes need a chemical clean?
When their output falls, the product salinity rises or the pressure drop across them increases; cleaning early is better, because heavily fouled membranes are hard to restore.
What is the difference between acid and alkaline cleaning?
Acid dissolves scale and mineral deposits; alkaline removes organic matter and biofilm. Membranes may need both, within the pH and temperature limits set by their maker.
Will any antiscalant suit my plant?
It is chosen from the water analysis and the salts present, and the dose is calculated on that basis.
How do I order chemicals?
Send the chemical type, quantity and plant capacity, or a water analysis if you need help choosing the chemical and dose.
