Chemical injection pumps

Chemical dosing pumps inject small, measured amounts of chemicals into the water line: chlorine for disinfection, antiscalant to protect the membranes, SMBS to remove chlorine, and pH adjustment chemicals. ALPHA for Environmental Technologies supplies replacement dosing pumps for the dosing units of desalination and treatment plants.

Where dosing pumps are used

  • Chlorine dosing

Disinfects the raw or product water and the storage tanks.

  • Antiscalant dosing

Reduces salt scaling on the reverse osmosis membranes; it is dosed before the cartridge filter.

  • SMBS dosing

Removes free chlorine before the membranes, because chlorine damages them.

Routine maintenance of a dosing pump

  1. Check the dose

Confirm the pump actually delivers the set amount.

  2. Diaphragm

Inspect the diaphragm and replace it when worn.

  3. Check valves

Clean or replace them so water cannot flow back into the chemical line.

  4. Injection line

Check the tubing and injection point for blockage or leaks.

Frequently asked questions about chemical dosing pumps

Why is my dosing pump running but not dosing?

Common causes are air in the pump head, a worn diaphragm or blocked check valves.

Which pump head material is right?

It depends on the chemical: some chemicals attack certain plastics and elastomers, so the head and diaphragm must suit the chemical being dosed.

How do I know antiscalant is not being dosed?

Watch the chemical tank level and the dosing readings; a stopped dose may otherwise only show up as falling membrane output due to scaling.

What do I need to order a dosing pump or its spare parts?

The pump model or a photo of its nameplate and the chemical dosed, so we can identify the matching pump or parts and confirm availability.
