Housings
Housings are the vessels that hold the filtration elements of a plant under operating pressure: cartridge filter housings, which hold the filter cartridges before the membranes, and the pressure vessels that hold the reverse osmosis membranes themselves. ALPHA for Environmental Technologies supplies the types and sizes that suit well, municipal and seawater plants.

Housings in a plant
-
Cartridge filter housings
Plastic or stainless steel, holding one or more cartridges in lengths chosen for the flow.
-
RO membrane pressure vessels
Hold the membranes; their pressure rating differs between well-water plants and higher-pressure seawater plants.
-
Seals and end caps
O-rings, end caps and connections that prevent leaks and are replaced during maintenance.
Frequently asked questions about housings
Why are seawater membrane vessels different from well-water ones?
Seawater plants run at much higher pressure, so their vessels are rated for higher pressure than those of well-water plants.
How are membrane vessels sized?
By membrane diameter (such as 4 or 8 inch), the number of membranes per vessel and the operating pressure.
When should a cartridge filter housing be replaced?
When it cracks or leaks in a way new O-rings do not fix, or when more cartridges are needed for a higher flow.
What do I need to order a vessel or housing?
Its type, size and the plant's operating pressure, or a photo of it and its data label.
